The great blue heron standing guard.


This picture was taken in mid-July, so long ago now. I was walking around one of the ponds in the botanical garden when from afar I spotted something atop a box. I approached cautiously and saw that it was a heron that was literally standing on one of the the boxes that the swifts use. I took several pictures and then continued my approach till i had a good look at it. Luckily the bird did not see me and seemed concentrated in looking over the pond as a lord would do over its domain. I thought it looked very regal.
