Red-winged blackbird.

This picture was taken in early May. I rarely take pictures of these birds but on this occasion, I thought that it would be a good picture. This a a male, recognizable to its red shoulder patch. The female is more of a dull brown. Smaller than a robin, this bird will nest near any body of water although primarily a marsh bird. They can be viewed as a health hazard when later on in the summer they congregate in the hundreds of thousands or millions after the breeding season. They are aggressive birds when nesting. Many times these birds have assaulted me as I pass by their nests.
