Common flicker.

I was very surprised when I saw this woodpecker, perched on a tree branch. Usually these woodpeckers are found on the ground, foraging for food. These are the only ones that look on the ground for their food. With their distinctive black crescent on their stomach and the red patch at the back of the head, they are very to distinguish from the other types of woodpeckers than can be found in the eastern part of the continent.
