The hummingbird moth.

I was amazed when I spotted this moth. At first, I really thought that it was a hummingbird. But when I looked closely, I could see that it was not a bird. It flew quickly around a few flowers and luckily, it had to stay in one place long enough to suck out the nectar from the flower. I was hand holding the camera, trying to focus on the eyes. I used a fast speed at iso 800 at f/11 to get most of it clearly. The colors were extraordinary to see, like I had never seen before.

  1. Wow awesome pic! Ive never seen an image like it (with the wings going crazy! :D)

    • Thanks a lot for the message. Yes the wings were beating incredibly fast. I had trouble getting a good fix on the eyes as it darted in and out of the flower.

  2. Nice shot! I saw something similar the other day and wasn’t able to get a closer look of it. I thought maybe it was a different kind of hummingbird of some sort. Didn’t know it was moth. Thanks for teaching me something new. 🙂

    • Thank-you Emily for writing to me and looking at my pictures!
