The female cardinal.

This is one of the first pictures of the year. I was near a feeding station when I noticed birds on the ground, looking for dropped seeds. As I got closer I soon saw that it was the female and male cardinals eating the seeds. The male cardinal flew away but the female one stayed behind long enough for me to snap several pictures. The cardinal can be seen more and more in the Eastern parts of Canada and that is a welcome change for it is a beautiful bird and its singing is easily recognizable. It is an aggressive bird and occupies its territory year-round. Since the first of the year I have been using a monopod, from the Giottos company. This is an essential tool if you have no stabilization in your lens or cameras.

Canon XTI, Canon zoom lens 75-300mm, iso400, f/5.6, 1/160sec, Giottos monopod.
